Job Overview
The Human Resources Specialist is a trusted partner to leadership and employees, leading the day-to-day HR function for a diverse and fast-paced organization. Reporting directly to the President and partnering closely with department managers, this role oversees policies, procedures, performance, and team support across the full employee lifecycle.

Balancing employee needs with business priorities, the HR Specialist applies sound judgement, provincial regulations, and company culture to drive fair, consistent, and people-first outcomes. This is an ideal role for an experienced HR professional who enjoys variety, thrives on building strong workplace relationships, and takes pride in running a well-organized HR operation.

Responsibilities

  • Full-cycle recruitment: post and maintain job ads, screen candidates, correspond with applicants, schedule and conduct initial interviews, complete reference checks, and prepare offer letters and employment contracts.
  • Onboarding & offboarding: lead new-hire orientation and facility tours, review policies and procedures, coordinate required training, conduct exit interviews, and manage all associated documentation.
  • Employee records: maintain accurate, confidential employee files in compliance with legislative and company retention requirements.
  • Probationary management: track new-hire probationary periods and ensure timely check-ins, feedback, and completion sign-offs.
  • Performance reviews: coordinate the annual performance and development review cycle, including scheduling, communication, tracking, and manager support.
  • Employee relations: serve as a first point of contact for employee questions and concerns; partner with managers to resolve issues fairly, consistently, and in line with policy.
  • Complex cases: handle sensitive or complex employee relations matters with discretion, sound judgement, and appropriate escalation.
  • Engagement & communications: lead internal staff communications, engagement initiatives, and company events that strengthen culture and connection
  • Policies & procedures: develop, update, and communicate HR policies to ensure alignment with current legislation and business needs.
  • Benefits administration: administer the company benefits program, including enrollments, changes, employee education, and vendor liaison.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Human Resources or a related field.
  • CPHR designation (or active pursuit of) considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, ideally as a generalist across multiple HR functions.
  • Experience in the construction industry considered an asset.
